Ahh … you climb into bed (with Nice’s fresh sheets and all), and then your late-night anxiety kicks in. Whether it’s from the stress from mornings, or seeing a photo or account that puts mood or a flashback to a cringy moment you can’t get over—either way, your bedtime bliss is now majorly interrupted.
It’s annoying, we know. Been there, done that (maybe more often that we’d like to acknowledge. The good news is that with the right set of relaxing tools, you can re-enter your happy (head) space if you put your mind to it. Ahead, we’re sharing five ways to feel good before falling asleep, so be sure to make a mental note for the next time your evening emotions take a turn.
1. Practice gratitude
Practicing gratitude is a very powerful thing. Take a few minutes and pen down the things you are grateful for. When you do this drill right before hitting bed, the brain emphasizes on generating positive thoughts and thus reducing stress.
Studies also suggest that gratitude helps you feel more optimistic and reduces stress and anxiety. And once you start writing down about things you are grateful for, you choose to welcome optimistic thoughts and start appreciating the little things in life.
2. Plan the next morning
Make a to-do-list for the next day. When you do that or even set reminders, your brain feels at ease knowing that a list of tasks is stored somewhere that it can refer to. This allows your brain to stop thinking about them and relax instead.
3. Listen to some music and relax
Listening to music before sleeping can even help those with sleep disorders by boosting sleep quality. They suggest that you should listen to songs with a slow rhythm to ensure effectiveness of this technique.
4. Visualization (sleep) station
The mind is incredibly powerful, and oftentimes we mindfuck ourselves into overthinking and dwelling on situations that haven’t even happened. Hence unnecessary yet heightened anxiety that can keep you up at night. If you feel a spiraling episode approaching, calm your mind down through visualization. Essentially daydream about your happy place—it can be anything from a favorite vacation memory to picturing your future life six months from now or even a calming environment like a moment by the beach visualizing the waves. By using mental imagery, you’ll be able to relax and distract your mind from whatever was bothering you.
5. Make sure the room temperature is all set
It’s hard to fall asleep if you are not at the right temperature (trust us, we know). You don't want to freeze to death in your sleep, or sweat through your sleep. Good news is, Nice’s dream collection is temperature regulating, it keeps you warm if your partner needs to sleep in a super low temp, or it keeps you cool when you decide not to turn on your air-con for the night after checking your electricity bill. Either way, Nice's dream collection is there for your good night sleep and to give you a positive morning that you deserve
